Reviews

This section publishes independent criticism of published audio work — long-form reviews and craft essays written without scores, without contact with makers, and without reporting on the events documentary audio may cover. Each piece assesses structure, narration, sound design, sourcing and restraint. Names of works appear only to identify what is being discussed.

We do not rank episodes, we do not star them, and we do not reproduce audio. A review is an argument in sentences that a reader can test against the work. If you are looking for plot summary or case commentary, you will not find it here. If you care how narrative audio is built, start with the featured review and read outward.

The library grows slowly; each piece is edited against the tape, not against trends. Craft essays sit beside the featured episode review and can be read in any order — they name techniques you will hear differently once pointed out.
